Only works if you have a smart phone though

I was unaware that phones came in the not-smart variety anymore.

The car uses a smartphone app and Bluetooth as the key. There is a RFID prox card as a backup, but the driver having a smartphone is a pretty safe bet.

I’ve said it before: a phone dash is only in style when your regular dash craps the bed and it’s all you’ve got. That this is only tablet dash is lame

Ehh. I just know when you are the third or fourth owner of one of these and the touchscreen breaks and you can’t find a replacement because they have been out of production for 5+ years you will wish they had buttons and gauges still.

Not everyone has a mobile phone

But if you charge your phone while using it you’ll be out of go juice in like tree fiddy.

And I thought the older GM/Mini style center stack gauge cluster was annoying....

The thing is, all of the buttons and gauges are also hard to find replacements for unless eleventy billion cars have them.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if it were easier to hack together a third-party replacement for this...

Still don’t understand why this doesn’t have a HUD.

I can’t tell you how much I hate this tablet glued to the dash trend. Even Mercedes has a fucking thing sticking out of the dash. They should at least have a long thin touch screen that fits in with the aesthetics of the dash, all the way across. They do that because it’s the screens that are made, they don’t want to have custom screens made.

I wish I could get a flip iPhone. Flip phones were so much fun to close when I got off an angry phone call.

Yeah, but all the gauges and buttons in my beat to shit trans am still work. My Tv from the 90s broke years ago.

While it’s true that not everyone has a mobile phone, I’d be willing to bet that every single person who is lining up to buy this $35,000 (or more) gadget has a mobile phone.

My friend used to have that waterproof verizon smartphone. Whenever he wanted to angrily hang up, he’d throw the phone into his swimming pool. The phone was waterproof, but there’s no reception underwater.

TBH my dad probably could have fixed mine, it was more than likely the solder connections wearing out. However, the risk of getting electrocuted by the capacitors really wasn’t worth it.

Exactly. Or buy up all the Google Glasses that didn’t sell, and use them a la the goggles Doc Brown had in BTTF 2.

Hahaha, the obituary would be amazing though. “The Bird is the Word Sr has died today from a heart attack caused by Hitachi television set. He loved his work, his family, his Firebird, Mini Coopers, and fixing things older than his son.”

All that shit is mine lol but yeah that TV was older than I am I think. You gotta be careful, those old CRT monitors are actually pretty dangerous from what little I understand. They store enough juice in em to get you pretty good.

RIP 2009ish “His death was shocking” haha
